The Keys

We took a late Christmas vacation with Kate’s family to the Florida Keys (Marathon specifically). Kate and I left Breck in the middle of a little blizzard (I-70 was closed due to an avalance and poor visibility), and stopped off in Newton on our way to KC.

Once in KC we had a chance to see Ivy and Mclean before we jetted off for Florida early the next morning.

Wouldn’t you know it… we were greeted in Florida with the coldest temps that they’ve seen in over 100 years. But besides it being windy and cold, it was still nicer than the weather we had come from.

The next day we headed to Key West and did some shopping while it was still cold.

And the day after that we toured the turtle hospital which turned out to be pretty cool… from the new born turtles all the way up to the 350 pounders.

As it warmed, we hung out by the pool, and then as the winds died down we would setup camp by the bay. We even got to see some great sunsets.

The big treat of the trip was doing some fishing on Monday. Captain Dave gave us the impression that we’d be catching fish left and right, but that wasn’t necessarily the case. But we did get to see a wide variety of wildlife, like dolphins, sucker fish, puffin, eels, and a several other fish. In the end we only ended up with one Yellow Tail Snapper and a couple of Mongrove Snapper.

We flew back early Wed, but I had to jump right back on a plane and head to Orlando for some meetings… a little too much flying for me in one day.
