Drew Pearcy joined us today, weighing in at 6lb 7oz, 20in.
Congratulations Eric and Joy!
I know, I’m a couple weeks behind…
Here’s photos of our trip to Chicago to watch Abby (Kate’s siter), Mindy Brown (friend of the fam), Lindsey (Miller cousin), Steve Lyons (I used to live in their basement), and Bre (friend of Kate) all run the Chicago Marathon.

Abby finishes her first marathon in 4 and a half hours.

Update: four days after the marathon, Abby had to be rushed to the emergency room to have her appendix removed. She’s home now after four days in recovery… appendix-less.

Last Friday I was driving to a friends house for a wine-tasting birthday get-together when I noticed the most horrid noises coming from under the hood of my ’98 4Runner. Luckily my wife had to work that day and was able to take me home that night as my poor truck languished in some strange neighborhood for the evening.
The next day we went back to take her to the auto hospital. I gingerly got in and crept along side streets to Mission Auto. The noise emminating from the engine compartment was excruciating. It sounded like a belt thwapping at the bottom of the hood… increasing with frequency the further I stepped on the gas pedal. Smoke slowly wafting from my truck, I clattered through quiet neighborhoods as Kate drove behind me awaiting the impeding explosion. We finally reached shop, and I cleaned out everything out of the truck, expecting the worst.
A few days later they were finally able to look it over and notice that my spark plug had backed itself out of the cylinder and stripped the threads. The resulting heat from the exposed chamber even melting some of the aluminum casing. How that happens I have know idea. At any rate Chris, the auto mechanic, was able to insert a small metal “spring like” coil, called a heli coil, to fix the problem and re-insert a new spark plug. A realatively painless procedure compaired to the alternative… which would involve taking the engine apart, sending to another shop so they could weld the spark plug hole shut and re-drill a new hole and thread.
So, needless to say, we’re thankful this didn’t happen half way across Wyoming just a week and a half before.
It’s that time of year again…
