Agua por favor

I came home last night, and to my joyous delight I discovered there wasn’t any hot water. It’s not one of those, turn on the spicket and the water never gets warm, rather it’s a trickle that quickly becomes a drip kinda no water. The cold water works fine, and taunts me, but nothing coming out of the hot side.

Now fast forward to this morning. I call the plumber, who give me a vague “I’ll be there between noon and 5″ response, so I’m working from home today. Then my roommate gets siked up for a cold shower, but we find that there’s almost no water at ALL coming out of the showers. Faucets work with cold still. So the prospect of bathing in a sink like a baby again is still open.

I’ve been having dark fears of our walls filling with hot water. The next time we go to hang a picture or something, we’ll pound a nail only to discover a new wall fountain. Wouldn’t THAT improve the resale value?

Update: We have hot water again. Turns out it was a small ball that got lodged in the hot water valve preventing any water from going into the house.

Planning hurts

Day two in lovely Sacramento. I’m up north spending a few days with Richard Larcombe, our web programmer guy, brainstorming about a whole new site for work. Sounds simple enough until you realize that you have to take over 20 years of “how people do things” and throw it all out the window only to start all over again. Methodologies, Data Architecture, Persona Senarios, Wireframe Prototypes… it’s all giving me an unending migrane. But it’s fun.

Last night, the Big Lebowski. Tonight, Settlers of Catan (a German hit in ’95!). And Tomorrow, wine tasting in Napa Valley.

Bless you.

Everything’s fixed

Fixed the overgrown backyard.
Fixed the busted hose.
Fixed the leaking sprinklers.
Fixed the clanking mower.
Fixed the broken valence.
Fixed the blown lights.

And Joy came home from the hospital today… fixed.
(no Joy, don’t look at me like that… you’re all better now.)

Open surgery

Please keep Joy Pearcy in your prayers today. At 9am PST she’ll be undergoing an exploratory surgery, where they’ll cut her open, pull out her innards and inspect them in hopes to find out the source of her mysterious stomach pains. I wish I was making this stuff up, but that’s what she has to endure today. (makes your problems sound pretty insignificant, huh?) She’s expected to be in the hospital for several days to recover.
